🚀 Getting Started with Alya

This guide walks you through inviting Alya, configuring essential Discord permissions, and running your initial server setup wizard.

1. Inviting Alya to Your Server

To add Alya to your Discord server, use the official invite link provided by your server administrator or bot dashboard.

Required Permissions

For all systems (moderation, temporary voice, anti-nuke, tickets, and leveling) to operate smoothly, ensure Alya is granted the following permissions:

  • Administrator (Recommended for full feature access), or explicitly:
    • Manage Roles (must be positioned above assignable/moderated roles)
    • Manage Channels (for temporary voice, tickets, and lock/hide actions)
    • Moderate Members (for timeouts and disciplinary actions)
    • Kick & Ban Members (for moderation and anti-nuke enforcement)
    • Manage Webhooks (for social feeds and logging)
    • View Audit Log (for anti-nuke and mod-log tracking)
    • Send Messages & Use Slash Commands

2. Role Hierarchy Placement

Discord enforces strict role hierarchy rules:

⚠️ Important: In your Discord Server Settings $\rightarrow$ Roles, drag the Alya role above any roles that you want the bot to manage, assign (e.g. autoroles, verified roles), or moderate. A bot cannot moderate or modify members with a higher role than itself.

3. The Setup Wizard (/setup)

Alya features an interactive setup wizard that configures all core systems in minutes:

/setup

The wizard guides you through:

  1. Mod Log Channel: Selecting where moderation actions and audit logs are recorded.
  2. Welcome Channel & Auto-Roles: Selecting where welcome cards are sent and which roles are granted upon join.
  3. Verification Channel: Configuring application-based or one-click verification.
  4. Temporary Voice: Selecting a category and creating a Join-to-Create generator channel.

4. Slash Commands vs Prefix Commands

Alya supports both Discord Slash Commands (recommended) and Message Prefix commands:

  • Slash Commands: Type / in chat to browse commands with live autocompletion and parameter descriptions.
  • Prefix Commands: Default prefix is ! (e.g. !help, !ping, !rank).
    • You can customize the server prefix with /prefix set [prefix].
    • Prefix commands run asynchronously with the same safety checks as slash commands.
